Grizzlies Win Home Opener!

  • Grizzlies 103 - Jazz 94

Nice way to start the season opener in front of the home crowd, the new ownership committee, and Commissioner David Stern!

I had believed we win this game as long as we dominate the paint, hold Hayward and Williams (both of them) in check, and especially if someone like Quincy Pondexter emerges off the bench. All of the above happened. Even with a horrendous shooting night from Rudy Gay, Grizzlies were able to pound it home in the final quarter for a resounding win.

Here are the notes from 2010 NBA draft on Gordon Hayward, 9th pick of the draft
Versatile swingman can score, pass and rebound..
And here is for 26th pick, Quincy Pondexter:
Top tier athlete with great quickness and leaping ability.

I only point this out because with half the shots taken and half the minutes Pondexter outplayed both Hayward, Marvin Williams (a former #2 pick), AND Rudy Gay. His bench energy was awesome, and he hit some corner pocket threes, which, as he gains momentum connecting on those shots, Grizzlies fans must be starting to adore.

The recipe for success on this team begins with Gasol and ZBO having MONSTER GAMES like they had tonight against 4 other very strong big men: Al Jefferson, Derrick Favors, Paul Millsap, and Enes Kanter. Then after you factor that in you have to counter whatever the other team is bringing. Tonight it was done with combinations of pesky defense by Tony Allen, Mike Conley, Rudy Gay, and Quincy all out on the perimeter and then guys just stealing rebounds, swatting away errant passes, and out-muscling, out-hustling the Jazz mano-y-mano down the stretch.

    changing of the guard...
    Go Grizz!
