2012 ESPN Player Rankings - Starting Guards

Grizzlies 2012 Roster rankings: Our Starting Guards

From the ESPN.com/NBA website:
ESPN.com and the TrueHoop Network are ranking every NBA player -- and counting them down on Twitter (@NBAonESPN), from No. 500 to No. 1. As the rankings are announced, you can also find them here on the pages of ESPN.com.

NBA player rankings 70s

The Grizzlies finally show they have the best all-around starting five in all of the NBA as their first two starters appear in the top 8% of these rankings. Imagine you get to select from the top 8 players of each group of 100 NBA players in a fantasy draft for all 5 positions of your team. That should definitely be a winning team.

66

Tony Allen SG | Age: 30 | 6.26

65

Mike Conley, Jr. PG | Age: 24 | 6.27

Tony Allen is top5 defense in the NBA but his offense numbers bring him all the way down to sixty-six. The best you can say about Tony's scoring is that it is slightly above NBA average. The funny thing about Tony is that he actually was much more ball-hawking and disruptive on critical moments of the game in the previous season. Still the Grizzlies led the NBA in defense last year so both Conley and Allen get major credit for defense.

The thing that's scary about Mike Conley is that he's still on the upside of his career and already knows how to be an elite passer and the number two defensive point guard behind only Chris Paul last season.

Other Memphis notables in the 61-70: Tyreke Evans.
