Tony and Zach Share the Love

I finally got around to watching this video and reading the story of what Zach Randolph and Tony Allen did on Valentine's Day. That's really nice what they did. They took care of some single mothers and threw their kids their own party next door. The women were pampered by volunteers from a beauty salon, and the kids got to hang out with some heroes.

Really great heart warming story that you don't see in the national media but you know it had an impact on someone. Plus they got some goodies and epic Valentines keepsakes it looks like. Good for them!

    Week 8 Recap

    Perfect week for grizz in week8. feb13-19, wins over Houston, NJ, Denver, GSW. Some amazing leads blown with come-from-behind-last-second-tip-in victories.

    AMAZING!!!

    Here is a chart from my stats I'm collecting for the 56 games played this week:

    Center position (Marc) has had their best week of the year - or most crucial factor in victory this week. Power Forward also way off the chart.

    2011-2012 season hiatus

    I broke my clavicle snowboarding in northern Vermont this past weekend. Painful and laborious to type, so I am taking off a few weeks off blogging.

    Cheers,

    Grizzlies 85 vs Timberwolves 80

    I dogged on Marreese Speights a lot recently. I see the Grizzlies have a new big man coach! There's hope for us all! He showed up in this game taking 15 rebounds that you know Kevin Love would have competed for. This is progress and with the home stand we can hope to steal a few more wins from some good teams like this.

    Point guard stats have declined bit now to the norm, yet they still lead all other positions this week after 27 games played. Quincy Pondexter bucked the trend entirely and set this team on fire. Poor play from the bench nearly allowed the Wolves back in it. The Grizz had too many big weapons for this Loveless Minnesota road team.

    Grizzlies in Game 26:
    PlayereStatμ = mean difference
    Mike Conley -2 μ = -6.111
    Quinton Pondexter +15 μ = +17.259
    Rudy Gay +12μ = +10.741
    Marreese Speights -7 μ = -8.852
    Marc Gasol +2 μ = +0.630
    6th (Dante Cunningham*) -5 μ = -6.259

    Grizzlies 84 vs San Antonio 89

    The Grizzlies need to make a change to get back to winning ways. The coach staff and GM are pro and know what to do. As a fan I always feel they are so stubborn and move so slow to rectify a problem. That's why I write this junk blog and they make the big bucks! They know what they're doing but let's check out the stats this week after 16 games played:

    What the heck - Point Guard has gone through the roooooof! QPon gets a +0 without even scoring a point because shooting guard is minus four points! A superior performance from Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol is totally squandered by poor bench of the Grizz and the elephant in the room known as Marreese Speights.

    He's not working out. When are they going to bench him???? Probably not tonight, as the Grizzlies face Kevin Love-less Timberwolves. Speights has the ability to embarrass their underwhelming rookie, Derrick Williams tonight. Let's see a plus stat on Speights' sheet tomorrow morning!

    Grizzlies in Game 25:
    PlayereStatμ = mean difference
    Mike Conley -2 μ = -9.250
    Quinton Pondexter -4 μ = +0.0
    Rudy Gay +13μ = +7.312
    Marreese Speights -15 μ = -16.688
    Marc Gasol +17 μ = +20.250
    6th (O.J. Mayo*) -5 μ = -7.063

    Grizzlies Games 22-24

    Have to summarize the stats from the past 3 games. I only caught glimpses of them unfortunately.

    Memphis 96 @ Atlanta 77

    Grizzlies' first win in ATL since 2005.

    Grizzlies in Game 22:
    PlayereStatμ = mean difference
    Mike Conley +9 μ = +6.862
    Tony Allen +8 μ =+6.845
    Rudy Gay +12μ = +8.741
    Marreese Speights -9 μ = -12.638
    Marc Gasol +4 μ = +1.793
    6th (O.J. Mayo*) +8 μ = +8.017
    *15st 6th Man

    Memphis 94 @ Oklahoma 101

    They had this game in the bag until the final minutes. Terrific buzz kill. Sadly I only saw them lose that lead at the end. For this team to beat OKC Thunder Rudy Gay has to outplay him and I don't think we'll ever see that day. Most annoying was I had a Texas alum all up in my face about it last Friday. Oh well!

    Grizzlies in Game 23:
    PlayereStatμ = mean difference
    Mike Conley -10 μ = -12.138
    Tony Allen +12 μ = +10.845
    Rudy Gay -13μ =-16.259
    Marreese Speights -3 μ = -6.638
    Marc Gasol +19 μ = +16.793
    6th (O.J. Mayo*) -11 μ = -10.983
    *16st 6th Man

    Memphis 80 @ Boston 98

    I had bought overpriced tickets for this game the moment the lockout season was announced. I had to go to Memphis this weekend for a funeral actually so I missed these games. I guess it's a small consolation that I missed one of the worst Grizzlies games of the season only behind the 40 point blowout at Chicago on New Year's Day where ZBO suffered his season ruining injury. Certainly this team is not cutting the mustard without Zach Randolph. I like what Marreese Speights brings to this team for 12 minutes a game only.

    Grizzlies in Game 24:
    PlayereStatμ = mean difference
    Mike Conley -1 μ = -3.138
    Sam Young -2 μ = -3.155
    Rudy Gay +0μ = -3.259
    Marreese Speights -20 μ = -23.638
    Marc Gasol +3 μ = +0.793
    6th (O.J. Mayo*) +3 μ = +2.983
    *17st 6th Man

    It's hard to tell how awful Marc Gasol was from these stats. The entire team laid an egg though. They must have been rooting for the Giants – serves them right.

    Grizzlies 100 vs Nuggets 97

    Well, I'm sad to admit I did not tune into this game until there were 30 seconds left in regulation. So I caught the final seconds of those heroics and then the extra period where the Grizz pulled off the miracle come-from-behind upset once again. That's the Grindhouse for ya!

    Since I pretty much did not watch this game my only other comment will be, keep winning baby!

    Marc Gasol and Andrew Bynum's winning performances on Tuesday solely account for the positive upswing in the center position this week. Point guard is actually best to stay behind the shadows for the win. If your point guard is your main scorer something is wrong. Mike Conley, Jr. (4 steals) and O.J. Mayo both delivered last night in the victory and Mayo's immense contributions were overshadowed by the scoring numbers of Al Harrington and Andre Miller from the Denver bench. No matter, we get the win with grit and grind hustle. Gasol and Rudy Gay demolished the opposition. Tony Allen played heroically once again ( 4 blocked shots!) . See you Thursday in Atlanta!

    Grizzlies in Game 21:
    PlayereStatμ = mean difference
    Mike Conley -1 μ = +2.250
    Tony Allen +9 μ = +5.0
    Rudy Gay +12μ = +6.50
    Marreese Speights -9 μ = -13.063
    Marc Gasol +19 μ = +17.187
    6th (O.J. Mayo*) -5 μ = -7.688
    *14st 6th Man
