Grizzly if I wanna be

Grizzlies today stand ½ a game ahead of New Orleans and the bottom of the Southwest standings. After the first 10 games of the season they have gone 0.656 win percentage. This is 0.003 behind the division leader, Dallas Mavericks overall win percentage. They'd be a solid 4th best record without that nasty start. Will the record keep climbing towards that number by April? Or will the Grizzlies "return to earth" and sink back below 0.500 again? We'll have to see. For now they look to be a legit team in the league having knocked off many serious opponents.

• big win against OKC last Saturday. for some reason everyone thinks Thunder is as good as the Lakers. they are good but Grizz is definitely the better team if they want to be

WESTERN CONFERENCE STARTERS

Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns
	Two-time MVP having perhaps his best season as he approaches 36. Numbers across board at or near career-best levels.  WATCH VIDEO Mike Conley has career high assist and 3pt% numbers. Steve Nash earns almost $10M more salary than Conley.

Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers
	Not the reigning MVP, but possibly the best player in the game. Stellar numbers (28.3 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 4.5 apg) don't tell whole story.  WATCH VIDEO OJ isn't the reigning MVP either but he could be. Amazingly his numbers are nearly the same as his rookie year, but he's become a far more complete player, and will only get better. Look for him to be MVP of the Rookie Sophomore All-Star game.

Carmelo Anthony, Denver Nuggets
	Leads the league in scoring (30 ppg) and Nuggets lead the NW Division. Focused and nearly unstoppable on the block.  WATCH VIDEO Rudy Gay is also from Baltimore area. Rudy isn't quite the prolific scorer as Melo. Funny thing is that Rudy is 2 years younger, but he has a ways to go to join this starting lineup. They are listed as both from Baltimore, same height and same weight. Rudy is the more athletic.

Tim Duncan, San Antonio Spurs
	Continues to deliver like clockwork, 20 and 10 every night. Spurs' anchor at both ends of the court and an MVP in the locker room.  WATCH VIDEO ZBO has averaged more points, rebounds, and steals than Tim Duncan this year. Duncan does have more blocks and assists. ZBO will likely be the first guy off the bench when Duncan gets a blow in the All-star game.

Amar'e Stoudemire, Phoenix Suns
	Doesn't actually play center for Suns, by why quibble? Can't argue with stats -- 20.8 ppg, 8.8 rpg and 56.1 FG%.  WATCH VIDEO Amar'e Stoudamire makes $13M more a year than Gasol. He averages more points than Marc but the rest of his stats are not better. Gasol will be starting in the Rookie Sophomore game for last time this year. He has potential to start in the big Allstar game in future years as there have been few other great young Centers in the West without injury. However, Chris Kaman is the leading center in the Western Conference this year.

Eddy Curry said he slept for only two hours Sunday night because he couldn't stop thinking about ghosts.

UPDATE:

The game resumed and the Grizzlies put the hammer down! They allowed only 12 points from Clippers in 4th quarter. The old "burst pipe" trick worked again! Glad it was nothing serious and it seemed to help the Grizz regroup.

Grizzlies face redhot Clippers team tonight.
They defeated the Lakers after a 9 game losing streak I believe. This is a team that erased a 27 point lead from the Grizzlies. They have to be jumped on and held down in a pin with their arms behind their backs to emerge victorious.

Keys to the Superbowl

1. Focus on limit of Eric Gordon, Baron Davis, and Chris Kaman obviously. But also Rasual Butler and Al Thornton can get hot. In their wins I see the same 6 players in double figures each game. With paltry contributions from other guys. Just gotta limit those guys.
   
2. Build the lead each quarter. Don't play from behind!
   
3. Play HADDADI. Unofficial Haddadi Night
   
   
4. Attack the basket if the shot isn't falling. Our points total has declined in the last couple games. We are making it a contest each night out. Instead we want to leave the other team with no real options to win the game. We want to win by either making jumpshots, or overwhelming them in the paint and distancing ourselves at the free throw line.
   
5. Get tall. If Conley is playing he has to play tall against BDIDDY. And OJ has to play tall against Eric Gordon. Marcus Williams and Tinsley should be able to match physically but keep banging.

Going to bed early tonight... maybe. Apropos, my concentration is gone early. Grizz are currently up by 36 points in the 4th quarter in Phoenix. The Suns have lost a couple cake games in the last 10 days or so to Golden State and OKC. However OKC is one of the hottest teams around. (Although, I just saw they lost in Overtime to the struggling Milwaukee Bucks) Right now Grizz may be moving ahead in the Power Rankings after games like this one tonight. No one is calling Grizzlies a cake walk this year! (2010 ROCKING)

Tonight could be the most emphatic, dominant road effort I've ever seen from Grizzlies.
And it really wasn't much more than domination in the paint by the bigs (Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph) and the best bench play of the season for the Memphis Grizzlies. The rest of the pieces just assembled themselves, and there was nothing Phoenix could do about it.

1. Sam Young looks like a lottery pick right now.
   
2. Thabeet looks like a lottery pick for maybe the first time this season.
   
   
3. ZBO is one of the best 3, at the very least, low-post players in the league right now.
   
4. Meanwhile, Rudy Gay and OJ Mayo are putting up star performances virtually every night. If Conley is not a superb point guard, it's of no consequence, because all he has to do is control the ball, dish it out to one of the hot hands, and get out of the way.
   
5. Defense was lacking in the first quarter as the Grizz put up 33 and Suns 29, but then 2nd quarter opened with at least a 16-0 run by Grizz in 6 minutes. The game was busted open from there and no one looked back.
   
6. All of this was accomplished despite nearly perfect performances by Amare Stoudamire and Steve Nash (offensively). Stoudamire is a more complete player than he's been in his career and defines the term, "franchise player".

Now with this win the Grizzlies are back at 0.500 for the first time since October when they beat Toronto to go 1-1 after the huge upset to Detroit on an anti-climatic opening night. It's not exactly what I expected to see at the beginning of January 2010, a 0.500 Grizzlies team. I would like to know if that record has been equaled in January even in the 3 playoff seasons?

Can't believe they allow these guys to run wild like this. Will they wait for Plaxico Burress incident or something worse before this guy is brought to justice?
